Managing aquatic vegetation is complex
Native aquatic plants are an important part of our ecosystem. However, invasive aquatic weeds can get out of hand and degrade a habitat, limiting the use and movement of impacted waters. Excessive plant growth is often due to:
- shallow bodies of water that allow sunlight to reach the bottom and support photosynthesis and plant growth
- bodies of water naturally being rich in nutrients which support rapid plant growth
Examples Of Problems Include:
- Irrigation water movement is inhibited
- Impaired or prevented recreational activities such as swimming, fishing and boating
- Impaired or prevented recreational activities such as swimming, fishing and boating
- Aquatic overgrowth can cause fish kills due to low water oxygen
