Managing aquatic vegetation is complex

Native aquatic plants are an important part of our ecosystem. However, invasive aquatic weeds can get out of hand and degrade a habitat, limiting the use and movement of impacted waters. Excessive plant growth is often due to:

  • shallow bodies of water that allow sunlight to reach the bottom and support photosynthesis and plant growth
  • bodies of water naturally being rich in nutrients which support rapid plant growth

Examples Of Problems Include:

  • Irrigation water movement is inhibited
  • Impaired or prevented recreational activities such as swimming, fishing and boating
  • Impaired or prevented recreational activities such as swimming, fishing and boating
  • Aquatic overgrowth can cause fish kills due to low water oxygen
